Hands up anyone that actually takes in what happens around them month to month. These recent images I started to take with Instagram show the changing seasons nicely. I will continue my quest through to this October to show a complete year.

6th January, 2013: GoGo Children – 5 January 2013

An eclectic night, musically, is always promised here. Tonight though, for me, very R’n'B top heavy. That’s not a complaint. However, John Stapleton’s mid evening set was fucking brilliant. And his near to last record of the night, Vehicle, was just what the ‘flapping’ doctor ordered! Since I heard it some months back I never thought I’d get to dance to it at a venue so a big WOOHOOO to that
Many others were praising his choices too; not just me.
I commented to Lindsay that the beer tasted as though it had been watered down; upon waking this morning I’m thinking that statement was ridiculous and am now having flash-backs and suffering the ‘beer fear’.
It took me forever to find my dancing legs; it was that one week of the month where I feel cumbersome and having ate with Lindsay before departure I felt fat and bloated. It reminded me why I never eat on a day I’m off out dancing.
Big thanks to Mark White for my two super CD’s.
So, another night of musical surprises at the GoGo in one hell of a venue. Thanks for my lovely bottle of Cava too Nicci & Dean – mucho grassyarse

1st January, 2013: NYE 2012 @ VaVaVoom…

By Christ I stink! Testimony of a successful night on the dance floor so it’s more of a ‘badge’ than a smell.
Yes, Lindsay and I were back up to the Old Smoke for the VaVaVoom NYE allnighter to welcome in 2013 and briefly celebrate my Birthday. I say briefly as being New Years Day no-one is interested in me or my Birthday. It’s been the same for 48 years so I’m used to it now
We were accompanied by Nicci & Dean from Go Go Children and arrived at around 9.30pm I think. In a true ‘what goes around comes around’ karma kind of thing they’d bought me a bottle of Cava and drank it on the way up between them. See Samantha, I’ve received my comeuppance having done the same to your present.
We bumped into Cristina and the French contingent outside; I banked enough hugs from her to last me at least a whole year
There were already a lot of people inside but we did manage to secure a table right next to Eddie and Emma Hubbard. Thank you for my card and present; very lovely of you
A tall woman approached me and said hello. I looked her up and down and thought ‘who the fuck are you!’. Then, in a thrice, it clicked. It was Kylie Simms
I didn’t recognise her at all! Party frock and no glasses – she looked SO different and very elegant. Sorry Kylie, didn’t mean to seem aloof.
The dance floor was MAGIC! A bit too much talc for my liking that seemed to have been pre-primed over the whole floor which found me inadvertently working my inner thighs real hard as I fought to stay upright without any Riverdance flapping about. In fact, the actual ballroom was perfect, complete with a massive Disco Glitter Ball! God I love those
My dress was a scrunched up rejection in the bottom of my bag within the hour; so, if you were running a ‘book’, guessing how long it would stay on, congratulations to the winner. By this time the room was rammed and the two other rooms were as well each time I poked my nose in and out through the evening. Completely different crowds in the two smaller rooms full of faces I did not recognise at all and youngster’s too! However, the main room was teeming with people I did know. Including my favourite ickle Spanish Stallion, Edu, all the way from Barcelona for the night. Good to see you.
I got scolded by a burly bouncer early on for vaping my electronic cigarette, who then proceeded to chat me up, and then complimented my dancing. Weirdo. Another bouncer kept standing right on the dance floor, in the way frankly, with a menacing look and a ridiculous ‘come and have a go if you think you’re hard enough’ legs akimbo stance; I twirled past him, wildly windmilling and gurning, and succinctly commented that he was in the way and should step back; so he did
Rolly & Garry Cotterell had brought Colin the Chicken along but alas, I didn’t see him all night. I asked if I could have a photo with him, ‘pecking me out’ on the dance floor but sadly the opportunity never arose. I’ll be sure to ‘stage’ this artistic, and somewhat porno, shoot at the Rugby allnighter in February for their 10th anniversary.
My dancing started almost immediately; this is why I couldn’t stay in my dress you see. Dresses, for me, just aren’t made for dancing and neither are high heeled shoes. So, I slipped on trousers, teeshirt and ugly flat shoes and was ready to hoof ma foof all night long; and I did. Whoop!
A true pot-pourri of music celebrating many genres and a perfect ‘Birthday’ dedication from Mick H with the Combinations – Whatcha Gonna Do at full blast for me – thank you!
Comedy lezzer moment with Mandy which found me tweaking some coat hooks that were in her bra after she asked if I wanted to hang my coat up
Leona Murphy’s late set was brilliant; as was Sam’s and Mick’s with plenty of proper 60s monsters and funk sides to die for. Ginger did what Ginger does and having not seen him for so long it was super to catch up and have a hug. Two of the residents, Joel & Ady supplied some lovely underplayed notable crossover amongst others. Yann, Resident No.3, delivered some great up-tempo numbers (except my request for the Curtis Liggins & The Indications. Hmph! In his defence I did make my request at the end which was a bit late obviously). Honestly kiddos, there really was something for everyone and more.
Here are a few of the records played on the night; big thanks to my Soul Secretary, Eddie Hubbard, for remembering some of the records below like a human soul oracle!
Played by Soul Sam who smiled ALL NIGHT
Played by Leona Murphy
Played by Mick H
Played by Ady Lupton
Played by Joel Maslin
Played by Yann Vatiste
Truly wonderful to see Jason, Liz and Martin from Bournemouth; not seen them in what seems years. Good health and happiness for the coming year guys. Was also good to see James Trouble in the house looking well, relaxed and happy.
The photographs are courtesy of Lindsay; I can’t believe that I left my own camera at home on such an important occasion! Thanks Lindsay.
So, there you have it. Another year gone and banked in my soulful memoires for future reference. Have a great year people and thank you for the music.

31st December, 2012: Another Year Banked
Spat by Soulgirl at 1:02 pm | Comment here!
Another year gone; they’re passing quicker than a chilli through your digestive system leaving us with skin too big for our ageing bodies.
This year has seen the worst Government in British History and has shown just how corrupt our country is fucking the poor and fondling the rich. From the glories of our Olympic Sportsmen to the embarrassment of our Celebrity Paedophile Witch Hunt. And now the world hangs in the balance waiting for America to fiscally fuck all Americans up the arse and we’ll feel that as the tsunami of hardship washes over the rest of the globe.
At least, on a dance floor, all the above is of no matter whatsoever. So, for 2013, I shall be throwing more windmills and hoofing my foof (if I can afford the petrol); why keep it real when you can live for the moment with a smile on your face, a tear in your eye and love in your heart.
Health & Happiness to all.
