My 40th Soul Night -
15 January 2005
And what a party it is was!!!
Many thanks from Pete, Dave, Wayne, Al & Janice who all had a blast, can't believe you didn't know Pete was Rays brother.
Best Djs for me were Molly (Did he really play Beverly Ann) and of course Mark who is so in tune with the dance floor that when I suggested to Pete to request The Cashmeres he was already cueing it up!
Cheers

Why can't normal soul nights on the South Coast be this good and this well attended. A great night with a buzzin' feel. Nice one Karen.

Yes, it certainly was a great night... I lost my voice though LOL. I could't have asked for a better turn out and the music was as I expected - BRILLIANT! My hat's off to all the dj's because they did a grand job indeed and more importantly, out of their own pocket so for them I say a MASSIVE thank you for your time, effort and tunes. Especially like to thank those that travelled so far - it's too easy not to bother going places far away so I am very pleased you all decided to come down. I won't forget this one in a hurry.
I had a squillion cards, champagne, massive earrings courtesy of cookie and a fantastic cake from Lindsay with my website logo's on it LOL. That was practically devoured come morning biggrin.gif We all had a great 'soul' breakfast in the morning too. I loved every single minute of it.
The Soulgirl
Blimey I forgot about your spot matey, was also very good (as usual)
Wasn't the attendence due to there being lot of people there from outside the area not to mention a bunch of irregulars whistling.gif
I thought the music policy for the evening was bang on, tried and tested oldies, smattering of 70s, very little RnB and no Modern and this helped the party mood, just about everyone was singing along.
Cheers

Well what a blast that was! Got down to Bournemouth about 5.15, dropped the bags and hit the bar. Spent a lively couple of hours in general chat before nipping up to the room for a shave and a change of clothes. Steve Csordas was still playing the tunes when I got back, I think he must have sent Carole home for extra records! Everyone was in fine form and the crowd just grew and grew in numbers. The DJs all did a fine job, with some wonderful tunes played, although there was one moment when we thought we'd been transported back in time as Beverley Ann hit Molly's decks biggrin.gif to much hilarity and poses with handbags in one corner of the room (photos will undoubtedly make the net soon). Karen's daughter, Lotte, was putting her mum to shame with her dance moves (future "Come dancing" champion in the making!). So many fuuny moments too! A pretty packed dance floor and many South Coast faces (nice meeting you at last Steve Cee) made for a terrific night. As time wore on the management decided that we'd had enough but the ever resourecful Karen and Tracy (Molly's wife) persuaded them to allow us to continue as long as we shut the fire doors and turned the volume down a bit. Steve Lyons failed to grasp the latter edict and in the end Tracy had to push him off the decks and take over, with a little assistance( whistling.gif ) from Tim Brown. Lastly Back Door Kenny (there was no sign of Kenny in the morning but his shoes were still on the dancefloor biggrin.gif ) made his way to the wheels of steel and at this point Helen & I decided to get a couple of hours of sleep in before breakfast. Last goodbyes and a stroll down to the pier with Jo Wallace made for an invigorating bracer prior to the drive back to London.
Thanks again Karen for a wonderful evening. Let's all do it again some time!

Just like to say it was a pleasure to dj for you and to see so many unfamiliar faces brings hope for the soul scene on the south coast.Got to admit was a bit worried about following Mark's spot clapping.gif but in the end what a brilliant night. When's the next one Karen possibly my 50th next year.
Ooooerrr don't think I should have admitted that.
Ps How about some playlists or should we just leave at good old northern party tunes?
