100 CLUB, MAY 2003
So, I was a 100 Club virgin and my cherry needed popping. Steve and Carole Csordas willingly came to my rescue and damn, was I glad. After all, they are groupies in comparison. We all met up at Steve Lyons InCrowd Soul Society @ Cagneys in Bournemouth. We had a few beers and then left at about 11.30pm for our journey to London. Dave Abbott came too so we all had a giggle whilst listening to Steve's new found tunes. That certainly put us in the mood for the long night ahead. The doors opened at 1.30 and we couldn't have got there much after 1.30 but already it was quite busy. In another hour the place was solid. Saw Ady Croasdell on the door as we made our decent down the world famous 100 Club steps. No soon had I got in and found a table, I was up and dancing on the freshly talc'd floor. Oh, did I say floor? I can only describe it as being a potholed wood laid floor covering that has seen better days. What feet must have danced over those floorboards to the sounds of famous jazz and soul artists and musicians begs arguement. The only word to sum up the 100 Club is 'characteristic'
Saw lots of people I know and David Flynn even came to wake me up at around 5am - cheers David :o) Im sorry I wasn't that talkative. The hours rolled by where track after track of pure class and entertainment rolled with them. The crowd was more than appreciative with the nights playlists and all HUGE thanks go out to each and every DJ.By 3am I was quite in need of my bed - shut my eyes for a couple of tracks found me back in the land of the living... by 5am I was wishing that my bed would magically appear but alas no - I had to hike up the road in search of coffee and sustinance to keep me going yet another 3 hours.Starbucks coffee house was our friend in need come 8am at closing time. How can I sum up the evening/morning in one sentence?'A must for all diehard soul fans everywhere, great venue, great guests and above all, fuckin excellent music.
