I’m a Northern Soul fan who travels far and wide in search of soul sustenance… upon my travels I take many photographs which you can view from the menu to the left…
Now, apart from my obvious obsession with Northern Soul I was also a back seat whiner and over opinionated. I’m a text-book Capricorn!
These days I’ve lost most of the above and am turning into a bit of a hippy. Perhaps the years of anger have now been laid to rest and I am enjoying life in the slow-lane.

Great site, love the daily plays. Returned to OZ from Christchurch
( DORSET ) last Feb, was home for a couple of years working. Did not hear much northern around good ol Bournemouth.
Just been to the Australian Nationals in Adelaide, met others from Poole, Bournemouth and Wool. I am just getting back to normal after a week of drunken dancing. My knees hurt.

I’ve just see the ‘best dancing I’ve ever seen’ clip and thought you might find the following interesting (in an anoraky kind of way).
I read an article in a NS fanzine in the 70′s about a ‘scene’ in the Carolinas in the USA called ‘Beach Music’ which intreagued me. I was in the RAF at that time and in then in 84 I was sent on detachment to…… Fort Bragg, North Carolina so I thought I’d seek out this ‘Beach Music’ scene at the nearby town of Fayetteville, get some (inter)views and write a follow up. Anyway, I don’t remember now in which fanzine it was published but the bottom line is that I managed to find a club where they played the music and discovered that it’s not a long way from NS but just a tad ‘poppy’. I also got to see some folks dancing and it was absolutely fantastic. It was couples and not singles like on our scene and when I enquired as to where the dancing originated, (and here comes the end of the shaggy dog story…..) the DJ told me that it came from the ‘Lindy Hop’ which is basically what those guys are doing in the clip.

Hey Karen, I just joined northernsoul.co.nz and found your amazing site. I have lived in New Zealand for the last 3 years, and being a former wigan casino-ite, luv what you are doing, your play list is fantastic. I now live in a place called Wanaka, NZ, and own a bar and with a regular of mine from Doncaster are hoping to host a NorthernSoul night/weekend in the town, he recently went to the Prestatyn gig, which has prompted us into organising an NZ gig, wanna DJ it????
Hi Steve, it’s a popular misconception that I own all the tracks on my website. I don’t – in fact I only own around 20 real records. I’m just not in love with vinyl
My Brother lives in NZ – Palmerston North! But there’s no way I could afford a trip to NZ in the near future and even if I did have lot’s of records, I’ve never DJ’d in my life I just dance my arse off to what the real DJ’s play.

My Brother is a bible basher! He doesn’t do soul. And I didn’t download anything – they’ve all be sent to me :) Do I have a top 500? God yes, but that changes every month. At the moment I’m really into Latin and Popcorn :D You can see, in my library, My Favourites, although that’s not been updated for months and months.
I would say, my favourites, right now, are the Steve Green folder! Check it out!

By now, you and all your readers may know that Al Wilson, soul artist best known for his songs “The Snake” and “Show and Tell” died last week in the U.S. I think it was from a heart attack, and he was only 68 (I know 68 sounds “old” to younger folks!). Could you feature his songs on your “soul cuts of the week” feature if you still do it on your site? I admit I’ve not looked at it lately; I’ve been job hunting. I’ve never really commented on any websites I go on before now, but yours is probably my most visited website and my first to comment on, fantastic website and it realistically keeps people up to date & informed ”long may it last” regurely check your music if there is a track I’ve come across I havent heard before. an i’ts usually there.
We havent crossed paths at any venue yet. Although I’ve been at some same venues as you sometimes.
Have a fair amount of mp3 tracks I could send you on a DVD not on your lists as yet if you wish to have them and could send me details to send.”Fast paced stuff an stompers” most of them with a few fairly unknown classics.

hi karen great site, love your attitude towards soul it’s all about the music and not what medium you choose to listen to it on. Have you been to the kings hall allnighter in stoke? i went last october and i must say it blew me away. It was the fisrt nighter i’d attended for more years than i like to remember(25 or there about). I’ve found some great tunes on your jukebox. Being a bit of a techno-phobe it’s taken me a while to pluck up the courage to contact you, i did send you an email but i probably cocked it up somewhere along the line, anyway keep up the good work and keep the faith.
