28th February, 2010: Lifeline… About Bloomin’ Time!

Hundreds of people came to celebrate the return of Lifeline for 2010. And we were NOT disappointed. (Except for the bar again). Soul fans from every corner of the country converged in Wolverhampton for the 1st nighter since October! God I’ve missed it! :-P
I arrived later than I anticipated due to Junction 10-11 being closed Northbound on the M6. How inconvenient seeing as we come off at Junction 11! Anyway, no matter. Off at junction 9 with a bit of a too-and-fro around back roads to reach the epicentre of soul goodness.
The girls, Mandy and Wendy, had moved into the corridor due to the cold weather and were wrapped up in a blanket eager to relieve us of £10 and adorn our wrists with a band.
It took a wee while to fill up but by the end it was absolutely rammed. The atmosphere was buzzing, the company adorable and the music top-drawer.
Chimene and I discussed the launch of a new club. The Crochet Sleeve Soul Club. She had passed comment that she was wanting to crochet something for me so the thought came to me in a flash. Us girls could all sport one crochet sleeve with frilly bits on of course, like those crochet loo roll holders :-D Now that’s a proper club init! :-P
The dancing for me started fairly early. Having eventually been served at the bar following whatshisface buying a 27 drink round I thought, due to the large queue that had appeared, two pints would be a good purchase to stop me returning too soon. I placed my pints on the table and skidded onto the dance floor.
Had a quick cuddle with Keith Money and Phyllis who’d come all the way down from Scotland with their Scottish crew and sat with Marie, Bearsy, Steve and Sue.
I had no favourite DJ this time around, well, actually Chalky’s set was sublime. They all played such a variety of genres that truly catered for everyone. The dance floor was in fab form that gave my inner thighs a work out trying not to slip and do the splits (*) Some fairly funky tracks came through during the evening but it didn’t have the same edge as when Karl Heard and Big George do it. Still, I’m not complaining, just making a shallow comparison.
Two special people missing; Lindsay and Rachel… but fantastic to see Karen Crane out and about again. You’re looking super sexy with your new hair-do!
Anthony Byrne was there; he’s running the London Marathon for charity so there was a bucket for us to put our wonga in. Good luck Anthony!
LOADS of chit chat, laughter and childishness with the likes of Eddie Hubbard, Karl Heard, Marie & Bearsy, Wendy and Mandy, Steve & Sue, Karen Crane, Spot and Gail, Mike and Jan, Fingers, Dave Rivers & Steph, and lastly Mace who tried to throw peanuts into my mouth from way up high… you’re rubbish and didn’t get anywhere near LOL. . Couldn’t have had a better night if I’d pre-ordered it! Thanks very much you lovely Lifeline Crew. Your hard work is very much appreciated. Apologies if I’ve forgotten anyone. I could have cited at least 3/4 of that room. We’re all one big happy family (Y)
And I cannot fail to mention my good friend Marcelle. Top bird and loads of fun and frolics. You’re a naughty one that’s for sure. I pale in comparison I really do :-D
Saddest news is that Keith will not be deejaying at Prestatyn this year. :-O He’s had his work shifts changed. How dare they! I said I’d contact the organisers for the weekender and see if we can move it to another weekend… haha… well, the thought was there. And I’m SO going to miss his double decking with the lovely Mr Weston. Legends that will not cahoot this year and that’s a terrible thing.
Before we knew it 11 hours had passed, daylight arrived and it was time to go home. I gave Mr Rimmer a lift back to his via Coffee on the M6 in the company of Toby, Paul, Fingers and co… and paced myself all the way home. Fooked but brilliantly so. Oh, and Geoff Green… just to reiterate… DON’T STOP DANCING because your negative commenter is an utter cock! :-D
ROLL ON THE NEXT ONE! Can it be louder next time with that bright DJ light at the back pointing down… it dazzled me on the dance floor :)
