  • 14th February, 2010: Rinkadink @ Rugby

hahahaaaa... Shane & KenYes folks, last night was the 7th Anniversary of the Rugby Allnighter.  Something Sian and the rest of her troop should be dead proud of.  A corking turnout too and rightly so.

I arrived ahead of my party as we were coming from different locations but by arriving early I not only secured a table by the Freestyle room I also was laden with a free Anniversary CD!

£10 in and worth every penny.  However, it was the Freestyle room I was most interested in as Dave Abbott, Steve Csordas, Bearsy and Phil Rains were rostered to delight us, and delight us they did.  For me, Steve’s set was a cut above; stunning and sublime.  Dave Abbott was a close second with a funky ensemble that just made me want to dance.  Mention must go to Bearsy though for his thoughtful delivery and of course, my favourite record, Soul Incorporated!

Me & IanI flitted between the main room and the freestyle room most of the evening.  The main room didn’t inspire me much at all this time round.  I think I’d been spoiled in the freestyle so the music on offer in the main room just didn’t seem eclectic enough for me.  However, Matt Smart and Kenny did a great double-deck at the beginning of the night and Mick H tickled my fancy with his ‘to die for’ records.

Shane made me burst our laughing when he appeared from nowhere in a Sombrero and Mexican moustache :-D

Mandy and Wendy were as naughty as ever and I was bum smacking fodder for Mandy which I duly accepted, like you do.

Simon Preston pissed me off.  He’d bought a copy of that fantastic record that Des Parker plays.  I said to Des, can I buy one.  He said yes, £20!  Bargain I thought until I realised that I would never play the record!  Again, he promised to put it onto a CD for me.  Hope he remembers :)

Anyway, it was lovely to see Simon even if he did have the record I want lol; get well soon Mr!

In between dancing there was plenty of riff-raff to converse with… and lovely riff-raff at that.  Everyone was in such a great mood and I even surprised Dave Abbott with a disco dancing T-shirt!  Hope he wears it :-P

Rachel was in such a great mood… when people are like that it rubs off on everyone around them and in fact, both rooms were full of beaming smiles, laughter and soul appreciation.

The Anniversary CD is fucking awesome…. I’ll upload it to the jukebox later for you. Anyway, thank you to everyone that allowed me to talk nonsense to them; it’s the done thing though ‘innit’ (*)

Hope you all got home safely, and see you all at the first 2010 Lifeline on 27 February… it’s gonna be a cracker! Whoot! (H)

    OH, AND HAPPY VALENTINES! (F)
