12th April, 2009: Rugby Recall… I’m Wankered!

So, as you know, Rachel and I decided it was high time we sampled the Rugby allnighter and because Keith Money was guesting it was the perfect opportunity to pop our Rugby cherry so to speak.
We got there about 8.30pm and Matt Smart was doing the early doors spot. Fucking hell! Brilliant!! We’d only just arrived but already the music was top drawer. Mr Money never let us down; two absolutely blinding spots *bows down* and Dave Rimmer hit us with a full hour of R&B which was excellent.
For the last two weeks I’ve been playing Another Sundown In Watts, on repeat, because it’s so bloody excellent so when Keith Money played that I was like FUCK OFF! Wooohoooooo! I’ve never heard that played out before, and until 2 weeks ago I don’t think I’d ever heard it at all. Couldn’t believe my luck I can tell ya.
I was twirling like a swirley dirlish what ever that is and loved every minute. Rachel and I couldn’t stop yacking on the way home about what an absolutely fucking brilliant night we’d had. Really, it was stunning.
Great venue and floor. Great sound system. Great patrons. The alternative room has some fabulous tunes going on but I couldn’t get into it. It lacked the excitement, hustle and bustle of the main room so there we stayed.
Best quote of the night, from me actually, was “third time fucky” (you had to be there ok!) :D
Best drink of the night was a large latte bought by Mr Csordas at the Watford Gap on the way home. Thank you very much. I enjoyed your company.
It’s not hard for me to choose Mr Money as the man of the match but special mention must go to the whipper snapper Mr Smart and indeed Johnny Fingers.
Had some lovely chats outside and talked absolute bollocks LOL
Fantastic to see Sue and Tony Edgley all the way from Australia! That must be the record for the furthest travelling for a soul night! Kudos! Oh, and Tony played a lovely set too… very enthusiastic indeed.
So many acquaintances with hugs, hand shakes and kisses. I really did feel like I knew everyone and it was sooooo friendly.
James Trouble insulted my camera so I insulted his, and him, in return. At least I take fucking photos LOL
I managed to assault Beefy with my tongue! Until now he had just been a tease on the internet. Tonight I met him for real, and it was worth the wait. Thanks Beefy LOL. (it’s a toy cow!)
Apologies to Mark Randall for not liking your modern set, and for telling you that haha. But like I said, it didn’t matter what I thought, the floor was packed and I was a minority.
REALLY REALLY REALLY, best night I’ve had in a long time! We’ll definitely go back. Thank you Rugby Soul Club – you’re stars :D
Special mentions to Idell, love you to bits… the effervescent Kylee & Ian, Ganche, Sian, Backdoor Kenny who in fact was Frontdoor Kenny on this occasion, Johnny Fingers who always makes me laugh. Lovely to see Andrew and Tracey Binns; they were Rugby Virgins as well. I couldn’t stop harping on about his marketing material – completely novel and yet to be bettered by anyone else. Lovely to see Molly again as I’ve not seen him for a long time. Also very pleased to meet Tracy and Andy who recently received unnecessary and spiteful grilling about their cancelled all-dayer. Really glad they could rise above it all and enjoy themselves as much as everyone did. Lastly, thank you to Rachel for accompanying me… you’re a real friend :D
Next one is 20 June, and with Ted Massey and Mick H guesting I think it’s highly likely we’ll attend… well, is the Pope Catholic? :D
