24th January, 2008: Congratulations Colin Corfield!

55 stones to 16 Stones… how amazing is that? £32k for a gastric bypass operation where his Mother sold her house to fund the surgery, Colin now is a mere slight of his former self.
Watching him on Richard and Judy the other night made me feel proud for him. Listening between the lines indicated that he had a very violent and unhappy childhood at the hands of his Father so took solace in food. Too much food.
Lottie and I both noted his beautiful blue eyes and gentle nature. He’s not a bad looking chap till he undresses.
When Doctors gave him around 6 months to live he knew he had to do something to help himself…. and boy, did he!
He now has a fresh dilemma though. Being that he was so overinflated, the excess skin he has been left with has left him looking rather like a man in one of those fancy dress Sumo outfits that hasn’t been blown up.
The NHS refuse to fund the surgery to remove the excess skin saying that it’s cosmetic. We’re not talking a vain tummy-tuck here… we’re talking major surgery for skin that hangs around his knees for heavens sake.
I’m a staunch believer that cosmetic surgery should not fall at the taxpayers financial door. However, I would have no hesitation in agreeing to this surgery if it were put to poll.
After all, this mans main health has been vastly improved and he’s helped himself as much as he can – no one can deny that. Colin, I hope you get your surgery… you should start a petition online for us all to sign and support your request :)

Well done Colin. I’m proud of you. I know your family from our Speke days and Runcorn. Saw your documentary and saw Alan Lally as well. I went to school with your Raymond and we were born within 1 day of each other. His is 16th October isnt it. I knew your mum and dad and sister too but you were only a baby then. I lived in Critchley road and then Castlefields. Once again well done mate. Ian
